In remembrance of George Floyd.

October 14, 1973 - May 25, 2020

These moments were captured in my community during the aftermath of the murder of George Floyd. People from near and far gathered to grieve, protest and pay tribute to George’s life. This was the most difficult experience to capture, witnessing the variety of expressions of grief and sorrow. Cupfoods was 2 miles from my home at the time. It had to have been the most eerie and unsettling moments in Minneapolis and nationwide.

Before publishing theses photos, I needed to process the feelings I endured, including my personal traumatic experiences in my neighborhood (witnessing a young man lose his life outside the gas station), just weeks after this photoshoot. It took two years before I was ready to share these due to the reminders of injustice, racial tension, and distrust in the police. All of these reminders were flooding all over the web along with the ongoing events that were occurring. It was at that moment when I needed to take a break from photography…
